10 Ways To Experience Summer In NYC

1. Chill out at one of the fountains in the city

 

 

Like we said, this is going to be one of the hotter summers in NYC. So, what better way to cool down than to find a fountain and hang out while letting some of the misty breeze hit your skin. Hey, it might even be fun to let your inner kid out and just bust a move in water. Below are a list of a few fountains around the city that you can visit.

 2. Visit the Hudson Yards Vessel

 

 

 

Sitting 16-Stories high, the exhilarating Hudson Yards Vessel is one of the newest attractions that everyone is talking about in NYC. It is a spiral staircase that allows you to see the city from different perspectives. Tickets are available from 9:30am-9pm, and don’t worry, they are free! Not only is it a sight to see, it photographs beautifully. So be sure to stop by and get that obligatory Instagram pic.

3. Ride the Ferry

 

 

 

We all know that riding the subways can be quite annoying and during the summer, it can probably get a little stuffy. Why not see if you can take a ferry on the way to your destination! This way you can sit at the top of the boat and let that summer breeze blow through your face. You can even buy a drink or two during your commute!

4. Walk The Brooklyn Bridge
 

 

 Take a nice long walk over this bridge, standing high above the East River. At a pretty nice, relaxed pace it’d take you about an hour. That’s just enough time for to not only site see, but to take some pretty cool photos. If you have enough time, you can even take a ride on Jane’s Carousel on the Brooklyn side of the Bridge.

5. Chelsea Market
 

 

 

If you’re looking for a hub with a bunch of shops and food, the Chelsea Market is definitely a destination for this summer. Located near the Hudson River, the market is about a block long and a block wide. There is also a wide range of restaurants and bars for you to dine at.

6. Escape Rooms

 

 

The summer sun is fun, but sometimes you need a little break from it. But why stop the fun when you can go to an escape room! It’s great indoor activity that’s sure to keep you energetic and laughing. Who knows you might even be able to beat escape the room so fast that you break a record!
 

7. Outdoor Cinema at Socrates Park
 

 

 

 

Going to a movie theater is fun but why sit in side when you can enjoy the fresh air of the outdoors and watch a movie as well!? Socrates Sculpture Park host an outdoor cinemas series from July 3- August 3. This is not just any movie screening though. Socrates Sculpture Park is known for showing international and foriegn films. At 7pm there is music and performances in the theme of the movie that is showing that night. The food from each film’s country of origin.

 8. Have a picnic in Prospect Park

 

 

We don’t have anything against Central Park, but most believe that Olmstead and Vaux viewed Prospect Park as the masterpiece. Take a trip to this beautiful park that covers 526 acres! It’s perfect for a midday picnic and makes for a great backdrop for summer photos!

 

 9. Go see the Unisphere

 

 

You might notice this landmark from the Men In Black movie! This 140 foot tall model of the world can be found in Flushing Meadows- Corona Park and is beloved by residents of Queens. Another place that you can go to stay cool when the sun’s beams are a little harsh. Also, within the park, there are a number of events that take place that you can check out while you’re there.

10. Smorgasburg

 

 

Last but most certainly not least, this summer it’s important to stay hydrated, so you might as well wash down something tasty from the Smorgasburg food flea market. Over 100 hundred vendors are lined up with a variety of food ready to make your tummy smile. You can go to three different locations: East River Park (Kent ave & North 7 Street) in Williamsburg on Saturday from 11am-6pm, Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill from 11pm-6pm, and near the Oculus at the Westfield World Trade Center
